When the idea of a Longest Lutheran Lunch first emerged six years ago, no–one knew what it could actually become.
It seemed simple enough: gather people at a LONG table, take a LONG time sharing a meal so people could relax and get to know each other and have lunches all the LONG way from the east of New Zealand to the west of Australia.
More importantly though, the proposed aim of the Longest Lutheran Lunch was to use the gift of hospitality to connect with our communities – so they could be supported by, and potentially also support, our Lutheran congregations, schools and aged care facilities.
The Longest Lutheran Lunch provides the means to extend the hand of friendship, the gift of food, and the heart for fellowship, just as Jesus taught us.
