Cook a sausage sizzle lunch for students and staff of your congregation’s school. Serve in long baguettes cut to size for everyone to enjoy.
Lunch Ideas 2018
Trading table treats
Staff and students can line up to trade 50c for a sweet treat made by congregation members or school parents. Keep it nut-free to avoid any allergies! Money could go to a charity supported by the school, such as an Australian Lutheran World Service initiative supporting children overseas.
Twilight picnic
Plan a combined church–school family picnic after school, offering food stalls or food trucks with different cuisines and courses, and finish with some fun games everyone can enjoy. Invite community groups, like rotary or sporting clubs, to host a food stall. Add some music and you have an event with broad appeal that is perfect for people to linger.
Breakfast/brunch bee
Plan a school working bee and provide a delicious breakfast or brunch to keep everyone energised. Go gourmet with yogurt and granola pots, savoury or sweet breakfast muffins and fruit kebabs; go provincial with hash browns, egg and bacon sandwiches on the BBQ and fruit platters – or try a combination of both! Good coffee a must!
Lunch box reprieve
Just for a day, offer a lunch box reprieve for busy school mums and dads. Come up with some creative lunch box menus you can put together and offer to children at your church or local school. Lunch box options could include baguette slices filled with dip and vegetable sticks, pizza muffins, mini quiches, cupcakes, Milo balls or fruit kebabs. Children pick their menu ahead of time and it is served in takeaway food boxes.
