Welcome to Longest Lutheran Lunch 2019
This year, Longest Lutheran Lunch will have a renewed and refreshed focus. The concept of Longest Lutheran Lunch is the same - offering hospitality to connect with our communities, by gathering together at a long table, taking a long time to share a meal together, and holding lunches all the long way from New Zealand to West Australia.
But this year, Longest Lutheran Lunch is being supported by ALWS, with alignment to the GRACE project, which supports refugee children to go to school. Our plan is to have an intentional outward approach to make it easy for congregations and schools to invite local community to experience Lutheran hospitality and taste love come to life.
In 2019, you have the option of holding the usual Longest Lutheran Lunch in the manner you choose OR you can be bold and courageous and organise a Gourmet Grace Gathering.
Here's how it works:
10% of the people you invite will be given a Gourmet Guest Card and they will receive a delicious gourmet banquet of your choosing at a price you determine.
90% of those you invite will be given a Ration Card. Ration Card holders eat for free but they will be given a meal similar to a Kakuma Camp Refugee arrivals - something like porridge, beans or lentils.
Can you imagine the opportunities for conversation that will result?
27 October is the date set aside but if it doesn’t suit, you can find a date that works for your community.
We will update this website with resources you can use. These will be available soon.
Every organiser of a 2019 Gourmet Grace Gathering will receive a special gift from the Lutheran Community Sewing Group. But more importantly, every $26 raised through your event, will help a refugee child to go to school through the ALWS Grace Project.
Please register your participation with us. We will keep you updated along the way.
It’s not too early to begin your planning. Pray about what your congregation can do in 2019 and who you will invite. And remember that your efforts will support refugee children and help them get the learning and education they deserve.
